The Greatest love of all…

Today the world lost Whitney Houston, one of the greatest singers of all time, at the age of 48.When I reflect on the many songs that she has sung over the years, the one song that has been on replay in my mind since I heard the news is  “The greatest love of all.” When this song came out in 1986, I was only six, so it didn’t resonate with me as much as it does now. Whitney was stressing for all of us to truly look inside to find the greatest love of all, which resides in us:

“I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be ”

I chose to remember the Whitney before the drugs, before Bobby Brown. The young Whitney that was able to convey these lyrics to us in such a profound way. Although her fans, her family, and friends will miss her, I truly hope she is at peace and that she was able to come to terms with her demons. RIP Whitney Houston.
